Nappy rash
There is hardly a Baby who would not have suffered from nappy rash while growing up. Despite the fact that so many good quality diapers are available nowadays, children still seem to get a diaper or nappy rash. A form of allergic contact eczema (or dermatitis), a nappy rash is caused due to the baby's delicate skin rubbing against the wet nappy. It is therefore advised that the baby's diaper be changed frequently. The rash can get infected when it comes in touch with urine and stool.
The nappy rash is red and resembles a minor burn with the skin crinkling as it dries. The rash is worst at the folds of the buttocks, scrotum and the vaginal area in case of girls. Sometimes the rash can get infected with a fungal infection called thrush (or candida). Breast fed babies have fewer nappy rashes than formula fed ones. Nappy rash is also seen after a bout of diarrhea sometimes.
