Cradle Cap

This is a common skin rash seen in newborns. Soon after birth a baby might develop a kind of rash on his scalp. This is referred to as Cradle Cap. It shows up as a scaly build up of dead skin on the scalp. Although it does not look very pleasant most newborns are not affected by it. A mild shampoo and baby oil are usually enough to take care of the problem. Cradle cap usually clears out by itself after a few months. If the condition is severe then the rash might spread to the baby's forehead and the nappy area. This condition is called Infantile Seborrhoeic dermatitis and may require to be treated with mild antibiotic ointment if it gets infected.
