Does diet play a role in Baby eczema?
It is still not clearly understood if diet and eczema are related in children. A lot of children who suffer from Atopic eczema also have food allergies. At least one third of babies with the worst eczema, more than 96 percent have a proven food allergy connection. But there is still no conclusive evidence to show that eczema sufferers benefit by a certain kind of diet. If you are sure that your child has an allergic reaction to some food then you should keep it away from your child. But in general it is best to expose children to a variety of food and a well-balanced nutritional diet.
Some children may be allergic to cow's milk, which is why it is always advised to breast feed a child exclusively for the first six months after his birth. Formula milk is made from cow's milk and may sometimes cause an allergy in an Atopic child. Breast milk also contains powerful antibodies, which helps the child fight off infections in the early months of his life. Breast-feeding can help tremendously in reducing eczema in small children but it cannot totally prevent it. In some cases, if the nursing mom is consuming dairy products, nuts, eggs, seafood, or possibly other foods (which vary from individual to individual), the baby will be negatively affected.
Soya milk, which comes from a plan source and not an animal source, can be given to those children who are allergic to cow's milk. Children who are very prone to allergies are also recommended to avoid consuming peanuts as that can also cause allergies. Foods children directly consume that can make eczema worse include egg whites, citrus (such as tomatoes, strawberries, oranges, and lemons), chocolate, and nuts.
